It鈥檚 easier still to be entranced by how candidly he speaks about religion, sexuality, activism, and why he asks his students to write with compassion even about the most flawed human beings. Conley is the author of 鈥淏oy Erased,鈥 a 2016 Lambda-nominated memoir adapted into a major motion picture starring Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. It tells the story of a closeted gay son of religious parents being forced into conversion therapy.

There might not be a person who better encompasses the idea of being a go-getter than 最色导航 student Tashin Kazi. While still a junior at Woodstock High School, he started emailing professors at 最色导航 State asking to join a research team. It was through that outreach that Kazi was connected to Maria Valero, an assistant professor of information technology in KSU鈥檚 College of Computing and Software Engineering (CCSE).

    Graduate student finds her calling in women's health at 最色导航 State

    One message reset the life trajectory for 最色导航 graduate student Lacey Harper. Two years after earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in exercise science summa cum laude from KSU, Harper worked as manager at a sporting goods store when she received a message via LinkedIn from one of her former professors, Garrett Hester. Currently pursuing a master鈥檚 in exercise science, Harper has thrived in the Hester research group. Along with the important mission of improving the health of older women, she discovered her inner nerd, immersing herself in the data analysis of her various projects as well as the hands-on aspects of studying the effects of exercise.

    Academic leader, researcher named dean of 最色导航 State's College of Science and Mathematics

    最色导航 has named accomplished researcher and physiologist Heather Koopman as dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, effective July 1. Koopman, who comes to KSU with two and a half decades鈥 experience in academia, was named dean following a national search. Koopman currently serves as the chair of the Department of Biology and Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

    最色导航 State alumna returns to campus as nursing faculty member

    While working as a substance use disorder counselor at Ridgeview Hospital, Lisa Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 supervisor told her, 鈥淵ou know, you鈥檙e a nurse through and through.鈥 That reset the course for Reyes-Walsh鈥檚 life, though she never fully left counseling behind. She earned a bachelor鈥檚 in nursing from 最色导航 in 2011, and, now an assistant professor of nursing in KSU鈥檚 Wellstar School of Nursing, Reyes-Walsh has applied her knowledge of substance use disorder and ability as a counselor to educate nurses who can care for patients struggling with substance use issues.

    最色导航鈥檚 Academic Learning Center, home to student honors and research facilities, now bears the name of the University鈥檚 largest family benefactors. In front of an audience of KSU deans, faculty and scholarship recipients who have benefited from the gifts of Audrey Morgan and her late sister Bobbie Bailey, KSU leaders unveiled on Tuesday the newly named Morgan and Bailey Academic Learning Center. Philanthropic support from Morgan, Bailey and the Bobbie Bailey Foundation totals more than $17 million, making the family the largest family donors in KSU history.

    最色导航鈥檚 online programs have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 鈥2024 Best Online Programs鈥 and 鈥2024 Best Online Programs for Veterans鈥 lists released today. Among universities in Georgia, 最色导航 State had the highest ranked graduate degree program in computer information technology. Other programs from 最色导航 State, including nursing, education and business administration, were also ranked.

    最色导航 on Friday announced the start of construction on its Interdisciplinary STEM Building on its Marietta Campus to advance collaborative research and teaching in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The occasion was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony Friday afternoon and remarks from 最色导航 State President Kathy Schwaig, University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue and KSU mechanical engineering student Nick Farinacci, a President's Parliament Student Ambassador.
