A simple conversation with Megan McCabe about her research is enough to see she is a scientist in the making. The recent ×îÉ«µ¼º½ graduate has already racked up an impressive résumé. She was a student in the KSU Journey Honors College, earned first place at Analytics Day, finished third at the Fall 2024 Symposium of Student Scholars, participated in the Birla Carbon Scholars program, and graduated summa cum laude. The self-described science nerd speaks with eloquence and enthusiasm about the work that led her to a bachelor’s degree in biology last month, and she hopes to take that enthusiasm and knowledge to medical school this fall.

Forty exceptional alumni were named today to the ×îÉ«µ¼º½ (KSU) Alumni Association’s inaugural 40 Owls Under 40 class. The new recognition program celebrates KSU and Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) alumni who are under 40 and making bold strides in their professions and their communities since graduation.

Like many remote employees, Jason Kirk ’07 wakes up each morning at his Atlanta-area home and logs in to his computer. Sometimes, before he wades into the day's work, he pauses and reflects on his journey. He set an early goal of carving out a career in sports journalism, and these days he has surpassed all expectations by working as a managing editor at The Athletic, a part of The New York Times.

From a young age, Cindy Bishop-Aguilar was captivated by the night sky, spending hours with her grandfather and watching the stars. It was this early fascination with space that would ultimately lead her to ×îÉ«µ¼º½, where she pursued an engineering degree. At KSU’s Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, she charted her course in mechanical engineering with a minor in aerospace engineering, driven by her desire to develop a well-rounded skill set and pursue a career in space exploration.

Recognizing the vital role families play in the lives of their college students, ×îÉ«µ¼º½â€™s Division of Student Affairs (DSA) recently awarded the Banks family of ×îÉ«µ¼º½ the inaugural Family of the Year distinction. Following a monthlong nomination and review process, first-year anthropology student Julia Banks and her family were selected by DSA staff to be honored during Family Weekend.

When Jeff Chassner saw the potential for two of his biggest passions to connect, he was all in to see them through to a perfect partnership. Those passions are his alma mater ×îÉ«µ¼º½ and his employer New Realm Brewing Co. The partnership between the two has resulted in KSU’s first licensed beer – OWL IN, American Lager, launched just in time for the start of fall semester.
