In conjunction with an ongoing effort to address the dearth of Asian American studies in K-12 school curriculums, 最色导航 professor Sohyun An is among a group of researchers recently awarded a prestigious $3.5 million Transformative Research Grant from the Spencer Foundation. The first of its kind awarded by the foundation, the grant supports a robust collaborative research effort focused on supporting the integration of Asian American studies in the classroom.

Toni Kamau is a digger. When something grabs the 最色导航 sophomore鈥檚 attention, she wants to find out everything about it she can, which serves her well in research. 鈥淲hen I assigned a goal for Toni and she reached that goal, she had the initiative to go further,鈥 said Chloe Xie, assistant professor of information technology and Kamau鈥檚 research mentor in the First-Year Scholar鈥檚 Program. Last fall and spring semesters, Kamau worked with Xie, along with other students to examine processes of how DNA is damaged and how it repairs itself.

Growing up, Darral Tate knew architecture was an important vocation but did not recognize the beauty in it until later in life. Encouraged by his mother to find his place as an artist, he found the perfect outlet in architecture. Since graduating from 最色导航 in 2019, Tate has continued to use his skills to launch a flourishing career in the built environment.

Tommy Brown has been fascinated by the vastness of space and the mystery of faraway stars for as long as he can remember, so it鈥檚 only natural he chose to pursue engineering. With the help of 最色导航鈥檚 Office of Undergraduate Research, the sophomore said he鈥檚 thrown himself so deeply into his work with the Summer Undergraduate Research Program that he could see himself one day enhancing space exploration technologies or helping to expand researchers鈥 understanding of Mars.
